Independence Ceremony

[Mo'i Kakali]

THIS is an LNN special news report coming to you from Ali’i Kaona, capital of the United Kingdom of Luthoria.
Today, we are witnessing the official ceremony mark the transfer of power from the Ocian Federal Government to the Royal Government of Luthoria. A large crowd has gathered in Kamehameha Park in central Ali’i Kaona to see today’s special ceremony that is to be held in front of the Parliament Hall, the home of Luthoria’s Royal Grand Parliament. A platform has been set up just in front of the large flagpole that stands in front of the building, level with the base of the pole. On the viewer’s left of the pole is a smartly dressed Luthorian color guard, and on the viewer’s right there is an equally impressive Ocian color guard. Everyone is waiting for Ocia’s President Michael Dervin and King Kakali to arrive and for the ceremony to begin.
We are receiving reports from Ali’i Kaona International Airport that President Dervin’s plane has landed, and that he is getting into his limousine that will be escorted to Parliament Hall by members of the Luthorian Royal Guard. Since the President has arrived, King Kakali will soon be making his departure from the palace, down at the far end of Kamehameha Park. The crowds are very energetic and excited at being a part of Luthoria’s history. Many are waving small Luthorian flags, and a few are even dressed in the colors of the flag, Gold, White, and Red.
We have confermation that President Dervin’s motorcade is approaching Kamehameha Park, and that King Kakali is now outside of the royal palaces, getting ready to get in his own limousine that will take him to this side of the Park to Parliament Hall. The King’s motorcade is now preparing to pull away from the palace, and President Dervin’s motorcade is heading up the side of the park towards Parlaiment Hall, having just passed St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Both sides of either street that line the Park are crowded with people, cheering as both Dervin and the King make their way towards Parliament Hall.
President Dervin has now arrived, and is getting out of his limousine. There is a clear path that constitutes most of the street that separates Parliament Hall from the park. President Dervin walks, flanked by security guards, towards the central platform, where a podium is awaiting himself and King Kakali to address the crowds that have gathered as well as the many people watching from their homes. President Derivn now assends the stairs to the platform, just as King Kakali pulls up. As the King gets out, the crowd cheers even more enthusiastically than it had for President Dervin. The King, who arrived on the west side of the platform, makes his way, much like the President did, towards the platform. He soon assends, and salutes the waiting colorguard, then goes and shakes hands with President Dervin. After the two leaders greet one another, President Dervin steps up to the podium, and a hush falls over the crowd…..

My Fellow Citizens,

Today, will be the last time that I address you as Citizens of the Ocian Federation, for as you had wisely chosen to do last June in joining the Ocian Federation, you have made once again the brave and bold step to take your own fate and destiny into your own hands, by deciding to democratically and in a civilised and peaceful manner to leave the Ocian Federation.

Last June it was a honour to have you join Ocia and it is even a greater honour today to watch you leave the Federation, not as the weak and dying nation of which you once joined, but as a strong and vibrant nation determined to forge its own way in the Micronational world and write its own history books. I admire you for your actions and hope that you will continue to thrive as a strong nation and will live for many, many years becoming the benchmark for which success is measured by.

My further belief is that you will go through strength to strength, because you have a admirable and respectable leader King Kakali, who will be sorely missed in the Ocian Federation, for he is a man of many talents and a fantastic leader, I have had the privilege and honour of working beside him in Government and to have him as a supportive and inspirational friend. The fate of Luthoria is safe in the hands of a Leader of the calibre of King Kakali and you will accomplish many great things.

So, My fellow citizens, for the last time, as your President, I wish you the best of luck in shaping your own future and it has been my honour and pride to have served you as your President and to have you as a wondrous addition to the Ocian Federation. The Federation will strive to keep close relations with the Kingdom of Luthoria and hope that our friendship as former countrymen, will never die.

… Presiden Dervin then steps away from the podium, and gives and order to the leader of the Ocian color guard to lower the flag. As the Ocian National plays for the last time, the flag is slowly lowered. Once it is removed from the flag pole and folded, the head of the Ocian color guard hands the flag to his Luthorian counterpart, who then proceeds to bring the Ocian flag to the King, who then hands President Dervin the flag that had flown from the flagpole in front of Parliament Hall since the merger. As the King does that, President Dervin hands the King the Luthorian flag that had flown on the same pole prior to the merger, one that had been given to the President last June. After the trade is complete, King Kakali steps up to the podium…

King Kakali Citizens of Luthoria, I great you on this most historic of days for our people. 7 months ago, we feared our nation was going to fade away into the annals of history, only to be forgotten about forever. It was then that Ocia offered us a lifeline to save our nation and our culture. We took it gladly, and moved forward from there, as proud citizens of the Ocian Federation. Since then, we took the neccissary steps to be able to stand on our own two feet again. Now that we are stable, now that we have gained more experience, Luthoria is now ready to once again chart our own course, to navigate the waters of this world and go where we would choose to go. We thank the Federation for saving us from oblivion, and now take what we have learned from Ocia and it’s people, and go back out on our own. As of today, ladies and gentlemen, we are independent! We are free to make our OWN choices!

See King Kakali step away from the podium, and hand the Luthorian Flag that President Dervin had just given him to the leader of the Luthorian color guard, who then proceeds to head back to the rest of the guard, now in position at the base of the flag pole. They unfold the flag, attach it to the pole rigging, and begin to hoist the flag up the pole. As the do so, the Luthorian Army Band strikes up the Luthorian National Anthem. The King, along with the people in the crowd face the flag and salute as it rises to the peak and flutters in the wind. When the anthem finishes, the crowd cheers loudly as the King returns to the podium to finish the ceremony
King Kakali Citizens, May we work together to build Luthoria into something far greater than what it was in June of 2008, when we were faced with the choice of giving our sovereignty up or face termination as a people all together. May we strive for excellence, for liberty, for peace, and humility. May we never forget our past, as it will be our best guide for the future of our people. Thank you all for your cooperation and support. Together we will make Luthoria a better place for all to live. May God continue to bless this Kingdom and her people!

See King Kakali wave to the estatic crowd, and then desende the same side of the platform as he came up. President Dervin does the same. Both leaders slowly make their way back to their motorcades, the King having a slower time than the President, because he stops so many times to shake hands with the crowds of people. After several minutes, both men are in their respective motorcades, which head back to the other side of the Park to Kamehameha Palace. The two are going to meet for lunch, and then President Dervin will be heading back to Directus to take care of matters of state in the Ocian capital. Meanwhile, a big day of celebrations is planned in Luthoria’s capital. There will be a grand ball at the palace, capped off by a world class fireworks show, along with an all day carnival in Kamehameha Park. The city is extatic due to today’s events, and people are expected to be partying long into the evening as they revel in their nation’s newly regained independence. [/]
